How to Create Your Own Headboard

How to Create Your Own Headboard

At some point in your college years or soon after, you will be given a bed bigger than a twin XL. I know it’s hard to believe after sleeping on one for so long, but it will happen. And when it does happen it will be truly spectacular. Spreading out like a starfish on your bed for the first time is something a young adult will never forget.

Now that you have your own bed bigger than a glorified cot, you might want to seriously think about getting a headboard. It is not necessary, but it will take your room décor to the next level. At the moment, you probably have little to no money, which is perfectly okay considering you’re a “coming of age adult”. I find that in this particular situation having little money to spend on house décor can actually benefit your creativeness and personal style. If you had an abundance of money to spend on home décor, it could very well end up looking like every influencer’s home that is plastered in what I like to call Home Goods Chic. Home Goods Chic is when a house is just covered in tacky Home Good accents like fake plants, fake marble, and a whole lot of white.

By creating your own DIY home décor, it gives your space more personalization. It will give you a uniqueness that will draw other unique people into your space and life. Creating your own headboard is a bit more difficult than the other projects I have shared with you guys, but it is worth it.

My favorite headboard piece is the one shown below. It is a piece of wood that has been carved out to create an organic structure. It even reminds me of a hillside. I love this one the most because it is extremely easy to achieve, all you need is a power machine to carve out your preferred shape and some tools to mount it into the wall behind your bed. This headboard will always be unique because the exact same shape cannot be replicated.

This live edge headboard by Classy Clutter is the perfect example of an organic headboard. This headboard can also fit in with several different styles and aesthetics.

A painted headboard is also a very cheap and easy option. Like the picture shown below, the headboard has been painted onto the wall behind the bed to give the illusion of a 3D headboard. This style can also be fit into several styles depending on the color used. If one were to use a more vibrant color like bright green or orange, then it would fit into a more Boho or decade style like the one shown below. If one were to use a neutral color like beige or a light green, then it would fit into a more organic style.

Both styles are classics and will be intertwined with style trends moving forward for the next few years so these two options are safe bets. Good Luck and remember to all my coming of adults, don’t stress! Everything will work out.
